Sorry for the silence. I am at home in bed with a fever – I haven’t had a fever since I was a kid. Not fun. Not fun at all.
In undergrad, I think I had a much harder time getting tests and exams deferred when I was LEGITIMATELY sick becasue I never had a fever, and I only rarely had swollen glands. I think the doctors at the student health center thought I was full of shit. But then again, maybe that was my own interpretation becasue I was vividly aware I never had the classical fever, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands-type of colds. Instead I had the achy, sore throat, congestion, earache-type of cold. Still not fun. But also not as obviously symptomatic as the fever-crowd.
Having said all that, I think it is important to note that despite my feverish condition, I still feel incredibly lucky that my health is generally good. There are millions of people around the world who are not so fortunate for a multitude of reasons. It is often easy to lose sight of our luxuries…
