Our carbon monoxide alarm went off at 4 am on Monday morning.  This was the first time the alarm had gone off (we’ve had the CO units for about 2 years), and our digital readout was showing ~250 ppm (bad!).  Fortunately, the alarm did it’s job & we quickly left the house (although not before opening most of the doors and windows – which, in retrospect, we shouldn’t have spent time doing).  The local fire department came to investigate & a few hours later we were allowed back inside.  Our wood stove was the likely source of the carbon monoxide & we have negative house pressure issues that are not helping the situation.  An HVAC tech is coming by today to look at the problems & hopefully propose a solution.  Even though this ended well for us, I can’t stress the importance of a CO alarm.   If we did not have a functioning alarm, we all would have continued to sleep through the rising CO levels (very dangerous!).

When a representative from Ricki’s asked me if I would like to test drive a few pieces from their fall collection, I quickly jumped at the opportunity to pick out a new autumn look.  After a full-store (and website!) browse, along with helpful recommendations from the sales staff, I decided on a vest/tunic/leggings  look.  This is a slight departure from my everyday style because at the moment, my leggings tend to be reserved for work-out and lounge attire (this is a ridiculous mental block as I have no problem wearing slim-fit pants, which are essentially just thicker leggings…).

Vest:  c/o Ricki’s  {I have actually been wanting a nice faux fur vest for a few seasons now, but I was unable to find something at a decent price point that didn’t look inherently cheap.  This vest is incredibly soft and is of much better quality than the other options I considered in the past}
Blouse:  c/o Ricki’s
Leggings:  c/o Ricki’s  {they keep their shape quite well!}
Necklace:  c/o Ricki’s
Bracelets:  both c/o Ricki’s (here and here)
Purse:  Le Chateau {old}
Boots:  Enzo Angiolini {simliar}
Sunglasses:  Aldo

PS: I’m giving away a $50 gift card to Ricki’s – check back early next week for details!

Skirt:  Joe Fresh {similar here and here}
Clutch:  Le Chateau {purchased about 2003 maybe?}
Shoes:  Charles David Katya {Also available here.  Loving the shape & surprisingly comfortable for the price and heel height!  Will be on the lookout for more colors}
Bracelets:  Gorjana chain; thrifted bangles
Midi/Knuckle rings:  Ardene {just meant to be cheapies to test out the look… After wearing between one and three knuckle rings for about a week, I have to admit, I am quite liking the trend! Similar rings here here and here}
Necklace:  Gorjana Ifinity II Necklace

I bought this skirt during a brave moment a few weeks back, and I am surprised how much I actually like it.  It’s a little outside my comfort zone, but also surprisingly wearable.

Still wearing white…

Another casual running-errands look.  Despite looking light purple, this shirt is actually has blue and red narrow stripes.  Which was surprising when I opened my Club Monaco order (it photographed light purple on the CM website too – so I was expecting to receive a light purple shirt!).

Thanks for stopping by!

Shirt:  Club Monaco Frieda Cotton and Mesh top
Shorts:  Club Monaco {sold out, but they have other similar styles still available – here and here.  As does J.Crew}
Bracelets:  Gorjana leather wrap; thrifted bangles; c/o INPINK infinity bracelet
Sunglasses:  Aldo {Cdn link here}
Purse:  Pour la Victoire Haven
Shoes:  SoftMoc {similar}

These silk bermuda shorts have quickly become my summer favorite.  I really like the flowy silk and the longer length.  Maybe I am getting old or maybe I am just too picky (or looking in the wrong place), but I’m really unimpressed with the shorts offerings this summer.  Everything seems too short.  And too tight.  Anything that doesn’t fit into the above category seems to be made of cotton.  Which inevitably wrinkles…quickly.  I think that’s why this Club Monaco pair is in such high rotation.  They are the polar opposite of everything I mentioned above.  And perhaps, in a way,  they are my own personal protest against the summer parade of daisy dukes and hot shorts.

This is one of my favorite morning rituals – sitting outside in our small orchard and drinking a cup of tea.  Even though the dogs didn’t make in into any of today’s photos, they are always around 🙂  I think I set up a scavenger hunt for them before taking these photos (I hide treats all over they yard – they have to sniff them out – it’s keeps them quite occupied!).

Dress (worn as a top):  SheInside
Skirt:  J.Crew Factory
Sunglasses:  Aldo
Bracelets:  Jacob
Purse:  Banana Republic {old}
Shoes:  Arturo Chiang Beatrixx

I loved the look of this SheInside dress online, however when it arrived, it was WAY to short.  Even my most daring self could not pull off such a short dress (keep in mind I am nearly 6’ tall).  Instead, it has been re-purposed as a top.  The quality is pretty decent for the price (I find SheInside can be hit-or-miss with regards to quality).
