Our carbon monoxide alarm went off at 4 am on Monday morning.  This was the first time the alarm had gone off (we’ve had the CO units for about 2 years), and our digital readout was showing ~250 ppm (bad!).  Fortunately, the alarm did it’s job & we quickly left the house (although not before opening most of the doors and windows – which, in retrospect, we shouldn’t have spent time doing).  The local fire department came to investigate & a few hours later we were allowed back inside.  Our wood stove was the likely source of the carbon monoxide & we have negative house pressure issues that are not helping the situation.  An HVAC tech is coming by today to look at the problems & hopefully propose a solution.  Even though this ended well for us, I can’t stress the importance of a CO alarm.   If we did not have a functioning alarm, we all would have continued to sleep through the rising CO levels (very dangerous!).

For some reason, I look especially sour in these photos.  Not sure why…I really liked this outfit.  The back of the blouse has some neat layering detail, although unfortunately I didn’t manage to get a decently in-focus shot.

Silk stripe blouse:  Club Monaco {picked up during a sale in May}
Skirt:  J.Crew Factory long pencil skirt {this color came out last fall, but I waited until it moved to the clearance section & snatched it up during an extra % off sale a few months ago!  Loving the rich yellow color}.  Find the J.Crew retail version here
Sunglasses:  Aldo Agrayssa {Cdn link here}
Bracelets:  Amrita Singh
Purse:  Banana Republic {from a few years back}
Shoes:  Pour la Victoire Carmendy {also here and here}

My work-wear has been under-represented on the blog recently, so I made a conscious effort to snap a few photos yesterday morning before heading to work.

On an unrelated note, I just found out someone else has recently started a personal style blog with the name Laura Wears.  Initially I was a little peeved, but to be honest, I have been contemplating a blog name change for a few months.  Perhaps this is the push I need to actually commit to a new blog name…

Sleeveless blouse: Banana Republic draped wrap top
Pants:  Gap piped broken-in straight khakis  {Cdn link}
Sunglasses:  Aldo Agrayssa  {Cdn link} These are a much cheaper option compared to the Ray-Bans I am seeing everywhere – similar ASOS version
Bracelets:  Banana Republic knot bracelet; Gorjana leather wrap
Clutch:  Banana Republic {old – bought in 2011-ish}
Shoes:  Arturo Chaing Beatrixx Loafers  {similar here}

I have been gravitating to more casual looks recently.  I expect, in part, this is to the feeling of being unconstrained by the spring weather.  For me, winter evoked images of uninspiring dark clothing, and tightly bundled up layers, while spring has been the opposite – airy, relaxed looks, with considerably more color.

Coat:  Vintage
Scarf:  Dynamite
Sweater:  J.Crew cashmere cardigan
Blouse:  found at Winners
Pants:  J.Crew Full-length Minnie in bi-stretch wool {really liking these pants!  I also bought them in burgundy during J.Crew’s last sale blowout 🙂 I already have a pair of the Minnie’s in twill, but they are not my favorite (because of the fabric).  The bi-stretch wool version is far better!}
Purse:  Vintage {similar here and here}
Shoes:  Pour la Victoire “Carmendy” {also here}

Is anyone else sick of winter?  I don’t normally complain about the seasons, but this winter is just dragging on and on…
I know I’ve said it before, but wearing color really helps my break out of my winter funk…even if only for a short while.  For today’s look, I took a chance on pairing dark olive pants {thanks Wikipedia for help classifying this color!} with my vintage teal coat.  And I have to say, I am quite happy with the result!

Winter Walk

Sweater:  McKinley {very similar}
Pants:  Lululemon Studio Pant II {with liner}
Hat:  Club Monaco Colleen {tired of seeing it yet?  It’s definitely a favorite!}
Scarf:  via Winners
Gloves:  Under Armour {I normally wear these while winter running…that being said, my tolerance for cold weather running is terrible & and I only go if the temp is -5C or warmer…}

We had a few mild days recently and we were able to go for a walk without putting on an extra 5 lbs of winter gear.  However, even though this sweater is meant for cold weather, I am also wearing thermal long underwear to stay warm.

Scooter generally wears a backpack on our walks.  Normally we have him carry a couple bottles of water {for himself, since he often gets thirsty on long hikes}, however in the winter he is more apt to eat snow than wait for water, so he carries extra gear instead {light coats, extra mitts, etc}.
