For those in Canada – I hope you had a great Victoria Day long weekend 🙂  I spent most of the weekend either getting the garden ready, or prepping the basement walls for painting.  The latter was especially time-consuming because the previous home owners who did an absolutely TERRIBLE job when painting the basement (I’m talking about dried paint drips on the walls, awful crack-filling that has left us with bumpy walls (wtf?), getting paint on the baseboards, handrails, doors, ceiling, etc…).  I am trying my best to repair their mistakes, which is why the prepping stage has taken so long.
This will be the new paint color (when I finally get around to painting…) – I am hoping it will be an upgrade form the current mustard yellow walls (I normally like mustard yellow, but it’s just not working in our basement…).

So happy January is almost over!  The unseasonably cold weather is making it hard to enjoy winter.  I will be much happier in March when the snow starts to melt and the temperatures begin to rise…
In the mean time, I have been making an effort to test drive unusual color pairings like burgundy and cobalt/royal blue.
Also see my teal + burgundy outfit here {one of my favorite winter looks to-date}.

I am now officially on holidays!  This is the first year I have opted for a slightly longer Christmas vacation, and I am pretty excited.  We don’t have much planned other than visiting with friends and family.  I am very much looking forward to two weeks of relaxing, sewing, skiing, and maybe painting the basement (it needs a facelift – the walls are currently a terrible color of puke yellow…).

…and some scarf-spiration

Fall Wardrobe Transition Tip #1 – Dark Accessories

blue monochrome outfit

aritzia silk blouse finley ainsley

j.crew blue wool pencil skirt

Tip #1 – To transition summer pieces to fall, pair them with darker accessories.

The look is still summery because of the airy top and bright blue color scheme, but the black accessories (purse, shoes) give an edgier fall feel.  So even if you’re not ready to give up your summer wardrobe (I know I’m not!), you can make you look fall-appropriate with a few darker accessories.  And while black is an easy go-to option, you can also use deep blues, purples, reds, etc. to give more of a fall feel

Blouse:  Babaton ‘Ainsley’ blouse {bought at Aritzia – currently on sale!  I have this same style in beige – they have been making it for a few years now – seen here}
Skirt:  J.Crew Factory pencil skirt in wool {I dropped the hem down to get a little extra length}
Sunglasses:  Armani Exchange
Bracelet:  Cassis {no longer in business…really too bad – they had some beautiful clothes}
Purse:  Erica Anenberg ‘Anaconda’ tote
Shoes:  Sam Edelman Portney <

Today’s thoughts:

1.  Have you heard Lana Del Ray’s ‘Young and Beautiful’ – I am obsessed with the haunting tune.
2.  That being said, my music library needs an update.  Any suggestions?
3.  I have committed to playing in a softball tournament this weekend despite still wearing a finger splint.  Probably not the best decision ever, but realistically I am probably going to require surgery anyways (go figure…), so one last tournament can’t be that bad…hopefully…

Fair isle sweater and a blazer

fair isle sweater homemade diy fall autumn outfit

I love with this outfit for a few reasons:  1) it’s warm, and since I’m STILL sick, warm is important;  2) my mom made this sweater [for herself when I was about 5 years old  – at the time I had the matching pink and blue version which made for some cute family photos 🙂 ].
