Fall Wardrobe Transition Tip #1 – Dark Accessories

Tip #1 – To transition summer pieces to fall, pair them with darker accessories.

The look is still summery because of the airy top and bright blue color scheme, but the black accessories (purse, shoes) give an edgier fall feel.  So even if you’re not ready to give up your summer wardrobe (I know I’m not!), you can make you look fall-appropriate with a few darker accessories.  And while black is an easy go-to option, you can also use deep blues, purples, reds, etc. to give more of a fall feel

Blouse:  Babaton ‘Ainsley’ blouse {bought at Aritzia – currently on sale!  I have this same style in beige – they have been making it for a few years now – seen here}
Skirt:  J.Crew Factory pencil skirt in wool {I dropped the hem down to get a little extra length}
Sunglasses:  Armani Exchange
Bracelet:  Cassis {no longer in business…really too bad – they had some beautiful clothes}
Purse:  Erica Anenberg ‘Anaconda’ tote
Shoes:  Sam Edelman Portney <

Today’s thoughts:

1.  Have you heard Lana Del Ray’s ‘Young and Beautiful’ – I am obsessed with the haunting tune.
2.  That being said, my music library needs an update.  Any suggestions?
3.  I have committed to playing in a softball tournament this weekend despite still wearing a finger splint.  Probably not the best decision ever, but realistically I am probably going to require surgery anyways (go figure…), so one last tournament can’t be that bad…hopefully…

I normally go to yoga class about once a week.  Even though I silently curse throughout the class, I really like how my body feels afterwards.  Unfortunately, with all the hustle and bustle of summer, I haven’t been making time to regularly attend classes at my local yoga studio {bad!}.  Tonight, while looking for a quick core flow videos online {because I was feeling yoga-motivated}, I stumbled across a number of fitness video subscription websites.  I had no idea this was a “thing”.  After very minimal research {which is not like me}, I signed up for GaiamTV.  Does anyone else have a subscription to a fitness video website?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!  Part of me is a little worried that this whole experience may go the way of Luminosity – intriguing at the beginning, but eventually I lost interest…

On a completely unrelated note – I am selling my first item ever on eBay {a pair of shoes}.  I ended up ordering the wrong size from Shopbop & instead of paying the $30.00 return fee, I figured I would try selling them instead.  Unfortunately the item only has 13 views to-date…

Only one day left to enter the Yoga Jeans Giveaway!

Yesterday I picked up my new car.  Eeeeek!  I have never bought a brand new vehicle before.  My first car was an old beater Nissan that my cousin gave me, when that died {I hydroplaned at 40 km/hr and hit a tree – the only accident I have ever been in – it wasn’t worth the $$ to fix the Nissan} I bought myself a used Toyota Camry.  It has been a great car, and has weathered 7+ years with me and over 300,000 kms {I drive a lot!}.  Recently a number of things have been going wrong, the most serious of which was the shifter cable breaking.  Let me tell you – not a fun experience!  I had always hoped to give the Camry away to my cousin’s kids, but it was not meant to be I guess.  Anyways, Kevin and I have been car shopping pretty seriously for about 2 weeks.  We settled on a Ford Escape – a crossover car/SUV.  I am still getting used to all the gadgets {it talks to me!}, but aside from being nervous about the car payments, I am pretty happy with the decision.  .

I wear my dark denim skinny Yoga Jeans a lot (see them here, here, here, here and here), so when I was contacted about reviewing a pair of Yoga Jeans from the S/S 2013 line, I jumped at the opportunity.  Since I am a creature of habit, I chose a skinny style (YOGA 96/97 SWP1197 high rise – very similar to my original pair) but in a fun lavender color.  As expected, the colored denim is incredibly comfortable and is stretchy without stretching out.  I wholeheartedly agree with the claim that these pants are comfortable enough for yoga yet fashionable enough for everyday wear.  In fact, I wear my yoga jeans while lounging around the house because they are just THAT comfortable (something I never do with my other jeans of work pants – normally I am a change-into-sweat pants gal as soon as I walk through the door).  These are definitely a new favorite for spring!  If you haven’t tried on a pair of Yoga Jeans, I highly suggest you pop by Nordstrom your local denim shop OR enter the giveaway below!

To win your own pair of Yoga Jeans:  “like” Yoga Jeans on Facebook and leave a comment on this post to indicate your preferred style (check out the Second Denim website to see all the options)
The fine print:  Contest open to EVERYONE worldwide and ends Friday, February 15th, 2013 at 11:59 pm EST. Winner will be chosen at random and contacted shortly thereafter

I am really happy how these photos turned out – finally some half-decent winter shots!  I have been running around all week trying to wrap things up before the holidays. An Amazon parcel arrived today for Kevin…hmmmmm, I wonder what that could be?  Perhaps a wake-up light 😉

Grey Monochome – Club Monaco Ina Pants and a Cozy Sweater

A grey outfit for a grey day…

I really like these pants however they are a little tight.  I wish I had ordered a size up.  I also wish I would have considered the fit more objectively when I first tried them on.  Instead I gave the good ol’ “they will stretch out” justification and cut the tags off (online purchase).

Sweater:  Pure by Alfred Sung {for Zellers – recent}
Pants:  Club Monaco ‘Ina’ Blocked Pant

Plaid pants and a yellow sweater

These indoor photos turned out better than expected – still not great, but decent enough…  I have been fiddling with my camera in an attempt to get decent indoor shots b/c I refuse to go through another winter with crappy photos.

Yesterday I discovered CNN’s Just a Distraction video series.  Hilarious!  And stream-able at the office!

Sweater:  Zara {last winter}
Pants:  D&G  {just arrived – bought from over the American Thanksgiving weekend – decided to wear them as-is here, however will definitely be dropping the hem to make them full-length pants…hello extra cuff material!} (similar)

Casual holiday outfit

This week’s IFB Project asked bloggers to show off their holiday party style.  One of the events I am most looking forward to this holiday season is our annual girls get-together.  Every year, between Christmas and New Years, myself and 5 of my close high school friends get together to catch-up over dinner and drinks.  Even though our lives have taken us in different directions, and we are no longer as close as we once were, I love that when we get together it is as if no time has passed.  This year, I see myself wearing something like the outfit above – a little bit of sparkle mixed with a little bit of responsibility 🙂
