I hope everyone is having a great long weekend! I was fortunate enough to have all three days off & so far I have spent most of my time working around the house or on the blog. I am definitely a home-body, and nothing makes me happier than spending days outside with the dogs and working on my gardens. I know this isn’t everyone’s idea of a great long weekend, but for me, it’s an absolutely perfect!
There’s a big blog change in the works. I have decided to move over to a WordPress platform, and will be re-naming the blog A Closet Full of Clothes (if you’re reading this, you are already on the new site!). Until everything is fully migrated, I will be posting at both A Closet Full of Clothes AND Laura Wears…, but eventually (probably by the end of September) I will start using the Laura Wears… Tumblr account to share single photos, as opposed to full posts (kind of like a more conventional Tumblr).
Since an outfit post is long-overdue, I took a few quick photos last night in our backyard. Georgie decided to join in on the fun too 🙂
These silk bermuda shorts have quickly become my summer favorite. I really like the flowy silk and the longer length. Maybe I am getting old or maybe I am just too picky (or looking in the wrong place), but I’m really unimpressed with the shorts offerings this summer. Everything seems too short. And too tight. Anything that doesn’t fit into the above category seems to be made of cotton. Which inevitably wrinkles…quickly. I think that’s why this Club Monaco pair is in such high rotation. They are the polar opposite of everything I mentioned above. And perhaps, in a way, they are my own personal protest against the summer parade of daisy dukes and hot shorts.
This is one of my favorite morning rituals – sitting outside in our small orchard and drinking a cup of tea. Even though the dogs didn’t make in into any of today’s photos, they are always around 🙂 I think I set up a scavenger hunt for them before taking these photos (I hide treats all over they yard – they have to sniff them out – it’s keeps them quite occupied!).
I have spent the last week feeling guilty about not updating the blog, so last night I finally managed to take a few quick pictures in the backyard. As you can see, I am still side-lined due to my ankle sprain…2+ weeks and counting… That being said, I am acutely aware that there are far worse things than a sprain and crutches, so I am trying to count my blessings and take this all in stride.
I have been making a conscious effort to try and hide my leg/ankle as much as possible (despite the racing-stripe tape job, I highly doubt anyone wants to see my swollen and bruised leg). Maxi skirts and loose linen pants have been in high rotation.
I sprained my ankle playing softball on Saturday (stepped on the 3rd baseman’s foot while running). Once the swelling goes down, my athletic therapist will be able to better grade the severity of the sprain (although she has already commented on how amazingly bad it looks).
I have never needed crutches before, so my learning curve has been huge. I have quickly figured out that pockets and a backpack are requirements & I am slowly getting more coordinated. If you have any tips or tricks to share, I would love to hear them!
I snapped this pic on my way to work on Wednesday (purposely keeping my injured foot out of the shot). The shorts are from Club Monaco (picked them up during an extra 50% off sale). The blouse is from J.Crew Factory, the sweater is from Zellers, the coat is Nike (very similar), and the shoes are from SoftMoc. And…the crutches are from the 80’s…they were my dads 🙂 He dug them out of the basement when I got back from the hospital. Everyone seems amused that I have wood crutches. It’s the oddest thing…
